Enhanced glucose uptake in glial cells might help fight AD. In Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative diseases, excess activation of glial cells causes neuroinflammation and damage to neurons. The study found that increasing glucose uptake in glial cells suppresses the inflammatory response and alleviates neuronal cell death.
