With new and aggressive strains of the mpox virus wreaking havoc across the world, the need for safe and effective vaccines that are also easily scalable and accessible is very strong. Previous studies have highlighted the potential of the LC16m8 vaccine, an attenuated vaccinia virus strain, to induce immunity against the mpox virus. Now, researchers from Japan have demonstrated the safety and immunogenicity of LC16m8 through a comprehensive immunological analysis in genetically distinct mouse models, non-human primates, and human specimens.
