Schistosome hybridization map

A detailed genetic analysis shows schistosome parasites that infect humans contain genes from the parasites that infect cattle in the northern part of Africa, but not in the southern part. The analysis also revealed that this process of hybridization happened a long time ago and does not represent a current threat.
