Bacteria swarm around a neighboring yeast colony (VIDEO)
Caption
Pseudomonas aeruginosa (small rod-shaped bacteria) swarms toward and around a neighboring Cryptococcus neoformans (round yeast) colony. The thin fluid halo surrounding the yeast enables the bacteria to swim and spread more rapidly, turning what appears to be a physical barrier into a stepping stone.
