Monitoring bone healing without X-ray radiation (IMAGE)
Caption
Working with her team at Saarland University, Bergita Ganse (photo) has discovered that commercially available devices for examining blood flow and oxygen saturation in skin and muscles can also be used to monitor the bone fracture healing process. Bone regeneration can be monitored quickly and easily using near-infrared light rather than harmful shorter wavelength radiation.
