Heterogeneous progression toward β-cell depletion and the predictors for type 1 diabetes: the TIDE-J study (IMAGE)
Caption
The TIDE-J study, a nationwide, multicenter cohort involving 314 Japanese patients with type 1 diabetes, reveals striking heterogeneity in the rate of β-cell depletion across and within disease subtypes. The study identifies key HLA genotypes, including DR4/DR4 and DR4/DR9, that distinguish slow and rapid progressors toward insulin dependence. These insights offer a foundation for individualized treatment strategies based on genetic and clinical profiles.
