With the first detailed look inside breast tissue calcifications, Illinois researchers documented distinct differences between benign and cancerous deposits. In this sample of ductal carcinoma in situ, a precursor to invasive breast cancer, calcium phosphate nodules clumped together and were encrusted by thick layers of more calcium phosphate.
