Discovering the role of laminin protein in myelin membrane formation (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers at Institute of Science Tokyo have identified laminin-411 and A4G47, a synthetic peptide derived from the E8 domain of laminin-411 protein, as the key factors in the maturation of oligodendrocytes and subsequent myelin formation. This finding can greatly improve cell culture-based investigations of myelin formation in laboratories and enable the discovery of novel therapeutic approaches to treat myelin-related nerve disorders.
