Leishmania life cycle: When sandflies bite a mammalian host, the parasite Leishmania is transmitted

The flagellated parasitic form, known as a promastigote, enters the mammalian host. The disease leishmaniasis is caused by the parasites, which, inside the host, develop into immotile, non-flagellated amastigote forms.
