Enhanced magnetocaloric effect in quasicrystal approximants via e/a tuning (IMAGE)

Through a “double hetero-valent elemental substitution” in a stoichiometric Ga52Pt34Gd14 approximant crystal (AC), the researchers introduced a new family of non-stoichiometric quaternary Ga–Pt–Au–Gd 1/1 ACs exhibiting ferromagnetic order and strong magnetocaloric response. This strategy overcomes the compositional constraints imposed by stoichiometry, opening new avenues for designing high-performance magnetocaloric materials.
