Light-based insect analysis sharpens forensic timelines (IMAGE)
Caption
Chrysomya rufifacies are important in the field of forensic entomology, as they’re known to colonize human remains after death. By learning more about their development, researchers can improve time-of-death estimates and construct more accurate timelines. These blow flies are also related to the New World screwworm, a parasitic fly gaining renewed attention as its activity increases in Mexico.
