Experimental design for the force measurement of KIF1A (IMAGE)

An inert protein known as KIF5B serves as the anchor from which KIF1A pulls the nanospring. As with more familiar springs, the extended length correlates with the force being applied. But in this case, the DNA nanospring is also labeled with fluorescent molecules which give away how far it stretches to make visualization of KIF1A’s motile strength possible. ©2025 Hayashi et al.
