Animation: earthquakes and imaged magmatic dike intrusion (VIDEO)
Caption
Earthquakes and imaged magmatic dike intrusion. Dots show machine-learning relocated earthquakes from 1 January to 28 February 2025 color-coded according to occurrence time (OTime). Orange patches show dike opening and magma intrusion imaged using the earthquakes as virtual measures of stress change due to the opening. Orange arrow indicates how magma is supplied to the dike from a source reservoir to the southwest under Santorini and the submerged Kolumbo volcano (orange disk). Animation shows progression of dike intrusion and triggered earthquakes in 12-hour sliding windows.
