How China’s wastewater plants can cut carbon and pollution together. Researchers mapped greenhouse gas emissions from over 2,200 wastewater plants across China. By analyzing energy use, treatment processes, and operating conditions, they identified high-performing “benchmark” plants. If all plants reached these standards, total emissions could drop by 30% while still ensuring clean water.
