Epidemiology and outcomes of acute-on-chronic liver failure in compensated liver disease

Researchers at Zhejiang University, China, conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of 24 cohort studies involving 4,398 patients with acute-on-chronic liver failure and compensated liver disease. The analysis shows persistently high short-term mortality and a temporal shift in underlying causes, with alcohol-related liver disease increasingly replacing viral hepatitis after 2014.
