How Cells Use GOMED to Choose and Destroy Unwanted Proteins (IMAGE)
Caption
Golgi membrane-associated degradation (GOMED) selectively degrades proteins by using K33-linked polyubiquitin as an 'eat-me' signal, which is recognized by the adaptor protein optineurin (OPTN). Mice lacking OPTN were unable to properly remove mitochondria during red blood cell development.
