A patient with complete blindness caused by irreversible optic nerve damage partially recovered natural vision after participating in a clinical trial of electrical stimulation of the visual cortex (VIDEO)

Microstimuation, training, and the participant’s motivation, may have played a relevant role in the partial recovery of natural vision. The BaLM test was repeated once a month throughout the entire experimental period, as well as 2 and 6 months after the conclusion of the experiments during follow-up sessions. The participant performed at ceiling levels in all modules(light perception, temporalresolution, light location and motion direction) by the first month after implantation, and these results were maintained in all subsequent testing sessions, both in binocular and monocular viewing in both eyes
