Internalization of isolated MSC-derived mitochondria via multiple endocytic pathways enhances cellular function (IMAGE)
Caption
Isolated mitochondria taken up by mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) increase cell proliferation, antioxidant capacity, and mitochondrial respiration. Uptake occurred in a time-dependent manner and involves multiple endocytic pathways, including clathrin-, caveolin-, CLIC/GEEC-, and actin-dependent mechanisms. These findings show that internalized mitochondria remain functional and improve cellular bioenergetics.
