Introducing the “Bloom” Cycle, or Why Plants Are Not Stupid (IMAGE)
Caption
Scientists have puzzled over the existence of photorespiration, a seemingly wasteful process in plants that releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere. Now UC Davis plant scientist Arnold Bloom has proposed the "Bloom cycle," showing how photorespiration is actually used by plants to improve energy efficiency and make useful products.
