The United Nations High Seas Treaty aims to better protect biodiversity in international waters. To date, communities in the deep sea, such as this one in the Menez Gwen hydrothermal field southwest of the Azores, remain largely unprotected. This image, taken by the MARUM-QUEST diving robot, shows a deep-sea crab on reef-building cold-water corals at a depth of 800 metres.
