Assessing the resistance of tomato lines carrying different combinations of Ty genes against begomoviruses (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers demonstrate that tomato varieties with Ty-1/Ty-3 and Ty-6 resistance genes are able to resist infection by virulent tropical species of begomoviruses that cause tomato yellow leaf curl disease. The symptoms were observed on the leaves marked with “*” in the susceptible cultivar Momotaro (M) and in the cultivar Momotaro Peace (MP), which carries a single virus resistance gene Ty-1. In contrast, lines carrying multiple virus resistance genes—AVTO1919, AVTO1920, and AVTO1701—showed no symptoms.
