Photo Caption: Block diagram for system implementation. Left, Alice (transmitter): Control computer maps bits to topological charges and random number generator. A separate, secure classical link transmits the key sequence {C}to Bob. Light generated by ultrashort pulsed laser goes to 4f pulse shaper, where control computer inputs commands to the SLM. Transmission optics through free space require beam expander and pointing control, telescope, beam tracker, tip/tilt mirror, beam steering. Right, Bob (receiver): Receiver optics include a collection lens, spatial filters, alignment stage. Local laser synchronized with Alice provides reference beam. Received PSTOV beam and reference beam go through interferometer and the interferometric images are detected by CCD camera and processed with Bob’s computer, along with the key received over the classical channel.
