New clues to disease severity identified in alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers at WashU Medicine have identified a previously unknown biological process that may help explain why only a subset of patients with alpha1-antitrypsin deficiency develop liver disease. In this section of liver from a mouse modeling the genetic disorder, darker pink areas show the accumulation of a protein associated with liver disease in some patients.
