Great kiskadee in full flight after an (unsuccessful) overflight attack on a sulphur molly shoal. (IMAGE)
Caption
A great kiskadee is captured mid-flight immediately after launching an unsuccessful overflight attack on a shoal of sulphur mollies. The image shows the bird with its wings fully extended as it passes low above the densely packed fish near the water surface. Sulphur mollies are known for their striking collective behavior in the oxygen-poor, sulphur-rich waters they inhabit, where coordinated movement helps reduce predation risk. The photograph illustrates a dynamic predator–prey interaction and highlights the challenges predators face when targeting highly synchronized animal groups in extreme environments.
