This image shows one of two proposed blocking sites inside the NMDAR channel, as seen from the side of the Asn cage. The yellow sphere is a magnesium ion blocking the NMDAR channel. The pink spheres represent the surrounding water molecules that may interact directly with the magnesium ion. Dotted lines represent polar interactions.
