Systematic exploitation of elite genetic resources, coupled with the integration of conventional breeding, molecular breeding, and precision genome editing, offers a rational strategy for the coordinated improvement of rice grain size and nutritional quality. By optimizing grain morphology, breeders can enhance yield potential and appearance quality, whereas targeted biofortification of essential nutrients and bioactive compounds can increase the nutritional and functional value of rice. Together, these strategies provide a conceptual and technical foundation for developing high-yield, high-quality rice varieties with greater benefits for human health.
