SwRI has identified nearly two-dozen pilot antiviral candidates to screen against the Bundibugyo species of the Ebola virus. SwRI will collaborate with Texas Biomed to test the compounds against Bundibugyo virus in its state-of-the-art Biosafety Level 4 (BSL4) Laboratory. The Filoviridae family illustrated here includes Ebola, Marburg, Sudan and Bundibugyo viruses. These deadly hemorrhagic fever viruses cause bleeding, septic shock, metabolic acidosis and organ failure over the course of infection.
