The controlled synthesis of materials can significantly boost the performance of electrocatalysts. On the left, the diagram shows the established synthesis methods. On the right, the new operando techniques with data-driven approaches and in automated laboratories are indicated. These expand the options for the targeted design of high-performance electrocatalysts, which are required for a post-fossil chemical industry (sketch bottom right).
