RivDepth maps river depth in turbid waters. (IMAGE)
Caption
RivDepth maps river depth in turbid waters. This schematic illustrates how RivDepth retrieves large-scale river bathymetry in high-suspended-sediment-concentration rivers. The model integrates Sentinel-2 optical bands with a suspended sediment concentration (SSC) proxy derived using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator (LASSO) regression, then uses an artificial intelligence (AI) expert module to infer pixel-wise water depth. Applied to the lower Yellow River, RivDepth generated continuous depth distributions, identified channel features such as thalwegs and centerlines, and achieved strong agreement with measured depths, supporting large-scale hydrological monitoring and basin-scale river management.
