Figure 1: Plane-wave magnons propagate away from a spin-wave emitter, as indicated by the bluish, out-of-plane magnetization contrast. Resonant magnetic soft-X-ray scattering with the magnons results in +1st and −1st-order diffraction peaks on the detector, revealing their wave vector, kSW, directly in momentum space.
