Enzyme-aware modeling maps microbial routes to higher biohydrogen production. (IMAGE)
Caption
This schematic illustrates how an annotated genome is converted into a genome-scale metabolic model (GEM) and further refined into an enzyme-constrained genome-scale metabolic model (ecGEM). By incorporating enzyme resource limits, the model creates a digital representation of Ethanoligenens harbinense YUAN-3, enabling quantitative prediction of growth, hydrogen production, and their trade-off. The analysis highlights how amino acid biosynthesis can redirect carbon and reducing power toward improved biohydrogen production.
