Wheat is being grown here in a hydroponic experiment at Aarhus University's research station in Flakkebjerg, where the roots grow in water instead of soil. The experiment enables researchers to investigate which natural compounds the plants release from their roots and how these compounds may help retain nitrogen in the soil.
