Fe/Zr codoping stabilizes cobalt-free Ni-rich cathodes under high-voltage cycling (IMAGE)
Caption
The schematic illustrates the synergistic mechanism of Fe/Zr codoping in LiNi0.8Mn0.2O2 cathodes. Under high-voltage cycling, pristine Co-free Ni-rich layered cathodes can suffer from lattice oxygen release, irreversible H2 → H3 phase transition, surface reconstruction, and structural degradation. Fe/Zr codoping helps construct a dual-reinforced oxygen–transition metal framework: Fe regulates the local transition-metal–oxygen electronic environment and stabilizes oxygen coordination, while Zr4+ acts as a lattice anchor through strong Zr–O bonding to suppress oxygen instability and structural degradation.
