U-shaped Pot Cultivation Experimental System (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers grew Gentiana squarrosa with C3 or C4 companion plants that naturally differ in carbon-13 levels in a two-chamber pot system where a nylon mesh allowed only fungal mycelium to pass between the plants. Plants connected to C4 donors showed higher carbon-13 levels, providing evidence of carbon transfer through underground fungal networks and supporting partial mycoheterotrophy.
