Kobe University translational cancer researcher SHIRAKAWA Toshiro developed the oral vaccine platform “B440” (pictured) designed to deliver selected antigen proteins, including cancer antigens, to immune tissues in the gut. The platform uses genetically engineered Bifidobacterium longum, a bacterial species commonly used in probiotic products and known to interact with the gut immune system.
