Study Site: Lake Ikawa and Surrounding Catchments in the Upper Oi River Basin, Japan (IMAGE)
Caption
Lake Ikawa (a dam reservoir) and its surrounding mountain catchments located in the upper reaches of the Oi River, Japan. The geology here belongs to the Shimanto Belt accretionary complex, creating a contrast between anti-dip structures on the right bank and dip-slope structures with high landslide density on the left bank. This unique setting allowed researchers to reveal how these geological structures exert a "dual control" on how mountains store and release rainwater.
