Safe, simple synthesis of dithioesters through single-electron transfer. (IMAGE)
Caption
A novel, three-component strategy for dithioester synthesis uses a photocatalytic system that integrates single-electron transfer (SET) from T4-CdCu, a metal chalcogenide supertetrahedral cluster, and hydrogen atom transfer (HAT) mediated by tetrabutylammonium decatungstate (TBADT), enabling the green synthesis of benzyl thioesters (center green and blue molecules) from elemental sulfur (S8), alkyl bromides (lower-right blue-circle molecule), and aromatic aldehydes (upper-right green-circle molecule) under formamide (NH2CHO) dispersion conditions.
