The proposed design process for wind-assisted propulsion systems comprises four main stages: design inputs, preliminary design, detailed design and finalization. The framework integrates vessel specifications, environmental conditions and budget constraints with aerodynamic and structural design, safety assessment, lifecycle environmental impact assessment, lifecycle cost analysis and third-party verification. Its central objective is to balance operational safety, propulsion efficiency and cost throughout the design process.
