The illustration of GQM hydrogel treatment for periodontitis. (IMAGE)
Caption
A research team led by Lin Quan at Jilin University designed an injectable hydrogel (GQM) loaded with MTA-Mg nanosheets that eradicates bacterial biofilms via NIR photothermal therapy and electrostatic interaction. The hydrogels scavenge ROS and modulate mitochondrial function to reprogram macrophage metabolism from glycolysis to oxidative phosphorylation, inducing macrophage toward the M2 phenotype to remodel the immune microenvironment and reverse bone resorption in periodontitis.
