Programmed heating drives heat transfer from the shell to the interior of millimeter-scale HNS charges, while thermal decomposition gradually enhances internal self-heating. The apparent ignition response is therefore controlled by heat transfer–reaction coupling rather than intrinsic decomposition kinetics alone. Charge size, heating rate, and density regulate internal thermal lag, heat accumulation, and pre-ignition temperature evolution, jointly determining the macroscopic cook-off behavior of small-scale HNS charges.
