Neuroma (IMAGE)

Study design. The unique molecular characteristics of painful neuromas were analyzed using specific molecular markers via immunofluorescent confocal microscopy. Painful neuromas were harvested from patients undergoing active nerve management and compared to healthy nerves obtained from patients undergoing lower extremity amputations. Both neuroma and healthy nerve specimens were processed and sectioned at 50 µm thickness for immunofluorescent staining using the molecular markers indicated above.
