A proposed model for the function of AcGLK2 in promoting anthocyanin biosynthesis in kiwifruit. On the one hand, AcGLK2 promotes anthocyanin biosynthesis by activating the transcription of AcMYB5. The interaction between AcMYB5 and AcbHLH42 can further activate the anthocyanin biosynthesis LBGs (AcANS and AcF3GT1). On the other hand, AcGLK2 represses the transcription of AcTRY, thereby reducing its ability to compete for binding with AcbHLH42 against transcription factors such as AcMYBF110, AcMYB123, and AcMYB5, thus increasing anthocyanin accumulation.
