Proposed functional nomenclature of the major urinary selenosugars (IMAGE)

Since selenosugars were discovered and identified in the early 2000s, multiple naming systems have been used by researchers, leading to ambiguity among biologically diverse selenium metabolites. In a position paper, a group of researchers proposed a standardized selenosugar nomenclature, along with a ‘gold standard’ for analysis and an updated selenium metabolism framework, which can help advance future research.
