Drosophila (fruit fly) brains (IMAGE)
Caption
Microscope images of adult fruit fly brains. The central brain image (blue/white) shows the complex network of octopamine- and tyramine-producing neurons, which until now have largely been studied as a single functional system. A new genetic toolkit developed at the Salk Institute helps untangle this complexity by allowing researchers to selectively target specific neuron subtypes (magenta/green) to reveal their distinct roles in fruit fly behavior.
