Alexander Laskin, professor in the James Tarpo Jr. and Margaret Tarpo Department of Chemistry, and Qiaorong Xie, postdoctoral researcher, stand in front of one of the mass spectrometers in Laskin's laboratory used to study the composition and volatility of atmospheric aerosol particles. They found that organic aerosol molecules in pollution, wildfire smoke, and urban haze can "hold on" to one another, causing them to evaporate far more slowly than current atmospheric models predict.
