Acoustic softening and point-defect scattering in the GST-x series

From GST-0 to GST-0.8, acoustic softening accounts for most of the decrease in room-temperature lattice thermal conductivity. Gd/Sm site mixing adds point-defect scattering at GST-0.8. The Klemens-Abeles parameter peaks near x = 0.5, whereas room-temperature lattice thermal conductivity is lowest at x = 0.8.
