Indirect-bandgap "nanotrees" direct light emission to nanoscale branches (IMAGE)
Caption
Researchers engineered branched gallium indium phosphide (GaInP) nanowires in which a higher indirect-bandgap core transports electrically injected charge carriers into lower direct-bandgap branches. This architecture suppresses light emission from the core while promoting light generation from the nanoscale branches, showing a single peak from the branches only, It demonstrates a new strategy for controlling where light is produced in semiconductor nanowire LEDs.
