How Far-UVC shifts infection risk below a critical threshold (IMAGE)
Caption
Conceptual illustration of the proposed Far-UVC infection-control framework. Without UV irradiation, viable pathogens remain abundant and infection can spread through the host population. Under 222-nm Far-UVC irradiation, pathogen levels are reduced, lowering cumulative exposure (Λ) and shifting the system toward a controlled, higher-survival state. The schematic also illustrates the study’s theoretical framework in which Far-UVC-enhanced pathogen removal may reduce the reproducion number (R₀).
