Mechanism of the Self-Aerating Electrocatalyst (IMAGE)
Caption
A diagram illustrating the cascade mechanism. Anode-generated oxygen is captured by oxygen vacancies (OV) on the cathode (hydrophilic side). A steady flow of electrons from the cobalt core through the N-doped carbon matrix enables the reduction of O2 to H2O2, which is then activated at adjacent Co-N sites to produce pollutant-destroying singlet 1O2.
