PFAS sensor prototype (IMAGE)
Caption
The prototypical device. An electrode (the three dark prongs on the white strip) is screen-printed on fabric strips, the same way that an illustration might be printed onto a T-shirt, and coated with molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) that bind specifically to either PFOS or PFOA. This strip is then inserted into a potentiostat (the black dongle, which measures electrical current), which is plugged directly into a smartphone that can take the PFAS measurement.
